Jay-Z has disclosed the history behind the renowned Roc-A-Fella diamond hand gesture, which has been an integral part of his persona the entire time.
In a recent comprehensive interview with Gayle King on CBS Mornings, the renowned Brookyln rap artist addressed the origins of the gesture.
“At the outset, our collective was known as Christion,” JAY-Z elaborated. “You go diamond when you sell 10 million units, correct? We had such a strong belief in them that we predicted they would sell 10 million recordings. We therefore began to position the diamond for Christion. Thus did everything transpire.”
He proceeded: “Eventually, we began experimenting with it, and then we began performing it at performances.” “It stuck after the entire crowd began doing it thereafter.”
During another portion of the interview, Hov reflected on the significant influence Chris Martin of Coldplay had on his decision to perform at the 2008 Glastonbury Festival.
Certain musicians, most notably Noel Gallagher of Oasis, expressed disapproval of the JAY headlining date announcement.”There was a moment when I wondered, ‘Why am I going there?'” JAY-Z reminisced as he guided Gayle King through the Book of HOV exhibit.”I do not intend to go if they do not desire my presence there.” Chris from Coldplay also played a crucial role in persuading me to participate. He remarked, “Jay, they adore you.” It’s simply the old elite, nothing they know. It has historically been a musical festival. They held no personal grudges against me. It was as if one were at a rock festival; that is precisely what it is. “The world was undergoing a transformation.”JAY then reminisced about memorizing the guitar chords for Oasis’s “Wonderwall” just prior to the Glastonbury performance; as a dig at Gallagher, he famously began his set with a snippet of the song. In 2008, JAY-Z became the inaugural Hip Hop performer to grace the Glastonbury Festival.
