Lil Wayne Admits Being ‘Too Old and ‘Too Tired’ to Write Down His Lyrics

In the past, JAY-Z inspired Lil Wayne to abandon the pad and begin composing bars himself, but he now attributes that motivation to something else.

During a recent appearance on FOX Sports’ UNDISPUTED, Weezy acknowledged that he is “too old and too tired” to recite from a piece of paper in the booth and no longer writes down his lyrics.

“Praise God an iPhone evermore.” Previously, I would need to constantly remind myself to do something because I never wrote it down. “They will perpetually consider it an accomplishment of some sort,” the 41-year-old co-host explained to Michael Irvin and Skip Bayless.

“No, I do not write; at this point in my life, I am too ancient and exhausted to read. “Well, they now have the iPhone, so I shall proceed with the voice memo recording.”

During a summer interview with The Pivot Podcast, Lil Wayne disclosed an alternative rationale for his paperless rap composition method. Early in his career, he attributed JAY-Z’s reprimand of discarding his notebook after he discovered Jigga had rhymed off the dome without writing any lyrics.

“Like Biggie, I adore Biggie, I adore Jadakiss; I adore everything except Jay. Immediately upon hearing it, I halted. You might inquire with my son. “I’ve heard that n-gga JAY-Z has ceased writing,” he declared.

“We completed ‘10,000 Bars’ in the studio, and that was the last time I rapped anything from a sheet of paper.”
The track “10,000 Bars” that Wayne alluded to is a 35-minute opus from 2002 in which he hurled the final verses of his written rhymes across a variety of rhythms in a rapid-fire fashion. The microphone was even capable of picking up the discarded paper.
Additionally, the native of New Orleans recently recalled an additional incident in which Birdman reprimanded him for allegedly attempting to freestyle like JAY-Z.
“You will begin to sound like your favorite artist as soon as you discover them,” he told Rolling Stone. “Birdman and they were the ones who pulled me aside and said, ‘Bro, I’m sick of hearing every song you produce sounding like damn JAY-Z.'” “You do not belong on JAY-Z.”
