Black Baccara, a rose with a distinct beauty from its dark red velvet color on a tall and elegant stem. It is the achievement of rose breeder Jacques Mouchotte, who together with French rose breeder Alain Meilland grew a special type of rose. Both have applied traditional breeding methods to make this rose color as close to black as possible.
After many experiments, Jacques Mouchotte finally successfully bred a rose mixed with two dark red colors, Celica and Fuego Negro, in 2000. And from there, the name Black Baccara was born. This rose, whose unique beauty represents creative thinking and ingenuity, became the inspiration for one of the most artistic projects of British car brand Rolls-Royce, La Rose. Noire Droptail.
La Rose Noire Droptail was developed following a request from an anonymous customer about a model inspired by the Black Baccara rose four years ago. This customer wanted a car that honored the uniqueness of the rose, as well as expressed her love for France.
“The richness of Black Baccara’s character inspired us in the creation of this model, in terms of color palette, composition and intricate details. We have combined modern design elements with traditional vehicle manufacturing technology, using materials to clearly demonstrate the connection between customers and France,” said Alex Innes, head of Coachbuild. of Rolls-Royce, said.
La Rose Noire is a limited model of the Droptail line with only four cars assembled worldwide. Each car is personalized according to the owner’s unique style. This is also the third model developed by Coachbuild, the division established by Rolls-Royce in 2017 alongside Sweptail and Boat Tail.
Such parts often create models with different designs compared to other commercially produced Rolls-Royce cars. These models cost millions of dollars, with CoachBuild representing the pinnacle of luxury for the brand. The cars also serve as research tools, as CoachBuild regularly thinks about and applies completely new ideas to then apply to commercial vehicle models.
I had the opportunity to admire La Rose Noire Droptail at Rolls-Royce’s hometown in Goodwood, England before the car was covered and transported to Pebble Beach, California for handover to the customer. Rolls Royce commented that La Rose Noire is “a black, bold and powerful masterpiece.”
Rolls-Royce applies a new design language to La Rose Noire Droptail, with the car equipped with a hard convertible top made of carbon fiber that can be opened and closed at will, giving this car the look of both a coupe and a convertible. . La Rose Noire Droptail is more beautiful than what people usually think of a Rolls-Royce but still retains the luxurious, noble feeling.
The attraction in the development process lies in the craftsmanship combined with artistry, skill and determination to create a car with intricate details like La Rose Noire. To complete the exterior paint, Rolls-Royce performed 150 coats of paint so that the car has the shimmering pearly red of the Black Baccara rose when exposed to direct sunlight.
The British car company has developed a dark paint layer specifically for La Rose Noire Droptail. An electrolyte in the chromium plating process and deposited on each stainless steel surface is almost as thin as a strand of spider silk. This finish is repeated on metal details throughout the interior.
