To our senses, it is (extremely danceable) music: An$AP and Rihanna Rocky recently shared a plethora of family photographs featuring their infant son, Riot Rose, and their 16-month-old sibling, RZA.

Riot, who is only six weeks old, made his public début at 7:41 a.m. on August 1, where he was welcomed into the world. Rih and Rocky are already experiencing a distinct public image this time around: Riot’s name and birthday were made public slightly more than a month after his birth, and his existence was confirmed to the public a little earlier, whereas RZA’s name was not even known until a few days before his first birthday. Rihanna jokedly captioned a TikTok video of the infant chuckling in his carseat at seven months of age, “Hacked.” Without regard to his appearance, RZA did not make his public debut until that moment.

Furthermore, the two pregnancy announcements could not be more dissimilar: In January 2022, the couple verified their pregnancy by sharing adorable photographs of Rih displaying a baby bump. Slightly low-key. Rocky and Rihanna made their second child announcement, Riot, during a stadium-sized, internationally televised ceremony. During the halftime performance of the Super Bowl, the singer flaunted her expanding stomach while performing a medley of her songs. Certainly not as low-key. 

There are solo pictures of the adorable infant and toddler being adorable infants and toddlers, respectively, as well as candid and posed photographs of the entire family enjoying themselves and posing for photographs. 

During a press conference held in February 2023 prior to her Super Bowl performance, Rihanna addressed the emotional transformations of motherhood and the reason she was performing on the show—which, upon reflection, takes on an entirely new significance given that it was her pregnancy announcement for Riot. 

“There is something about motherhood that makes you feel as though you can conquer the world and accomplish anything,” she explained. “The Super Bowl is among the world’s largest stages.” “Despite the fact that it was terrifying and I hadn’t performed on stage in seven years, the inherent difficulty of the situation was exhilarating.”

“This is something I must accomplish this year. It is crucial for representation and for my son to understand that.”

Which son was it at that moment, the one inside her womb or the one outside? Simply state both.
