Cardi B Steals Spotlight Runway Debut in Vibrant Blue Faux Fur Coat at L.A. Balenciaga Street Show

She can cross off Cardi B’s runway debut from her goal list.

Saturday in Los Angeles, the 31-year-old rapper made her debut on the catwalk during Balenciaga’s pre-fall 2024 show. She complemented a bustier bodysuit with a bright blue synthetic fur off-the-shoulder coat; however, the voluminous, fluffy outerwear coat was the focal point of the ensemble. Cardi aced her first runway appearance while adorned with an assortment of dazzling jewelry, including diamond piercings, a diamond ring, and a chain bearing the brand’s logo.

She wore a long ponytail pulled back behind her and slicked back, and she matched a daring dark red lip with a dramatic cat-eye appearance.

The fashion house’s inaugural event since its contentious holiday campaign in 2022 transpired on a closed street in the Hancock Park neighborhood of Paris. The road, bordered with palm trees, was oriented precisely perpendicular to the Hollywood sign, providing the models with a breathtaking backdrop as they displayed the collection of streetwear-inspired casual and cozy attire.

Carti humorously captioned a photo of herself pacing the runway that she posted on X (formerly Twitter) in remembrance of the momentous occasion: “On my way to Chic Fil A!”

While Cardi B made her runway début on Saturday, her spouse Offset has previously graced the catwalk at Balenciaga. During Paris Fashion Week in 2021, the 31-year-old Migos rapper walked the Spring/Summer 2022 show while entirely attired in Balenciaga.“So proud of my husband @offsetrn, who walked the show!” she exclaimed on Instagram while following the event.Celebrities such as Kim Kardashian, Nicole Kidman, and Salma Hayek attended the star-studded show on Saturday to view designer Demna’s creations, which were inventive takes on L.A. fashion codes such as grunge, eveningwear, and activewear. Additionally, the exhibition showcased exclusive merchandise, such as apparel and totes crafted in tandem with the organic retailer Erewhon, as well as jewelry designed in conjunction with Jacob & Co.Kardashian, 43, an ambassador for Balenciaga for nearly two years and a longtime admirer of the brand, channeled the brand’s edgy aesthetics by donning nude lace leggings, a nude high-deck top, and a black Balenciaga logo jacket. She completed her ensemble with black visor sunglasses and damp hair, and while watching the rapper walk the runway, she gushed to Cardi B on her Instagram Story. At the event, Hayek, 57, adorned herself in neon pink heels, a neon pink clutch, a black dress, black sunglasses, and shimmering silver drop earrings to add a splash of color. At the show, Kidman opted for an all-black Balenciaga ensemble, donning a black double-breasted dress, black stockings, black gloves, and black heels. “Excited” to get to work, the 56-year-old actress exclaimed upon being named the brand’s newest ambassador.”From my wedding to the Oscars red carpet, Balenciaga has been by my side for some of the most momentous occasions of my life,” she said in a press release, adding that she is “looking forward to creating more memories together.”Saturday’s Balenciaga show marked Demna’s resumption of public appearances since the brand’s “Gift Collection” campaign generated online backlash with its controversial iconography a year ago.Two distinct advertising campaigns received criticism for sexualizing children through their imagery. One campaign featured children cradling teddy bears adorned in leather bondage gear, while the other featured a “office”-themed advertisement that alluded to a Supreme Court case concerning child porn.Immediately following the campaigns’ removal, the brand issued a statement in which it “sincerely apologized for any offense” the images may have caused. Furthermore, Balenciaga initiated legal proceedings against the production company that oversaw the campaign, alleging that the severe criticism of the images was due to “omissions” made by the company. Ultimately, the longstanding creative director of the brand issued a statement accepting responsibility for the decision and expressing regret for the ensuing chaos. “I personally apologize for selecting the incorrect artistic concept… and I accept full responsibility,” he wrote in a social media-distributed statement. “While I may occasionally desire for my work to stimulate thought, I would never intentionally attempt to do so with the abhorrent subject of child abuse, which I vehemently oppose. I must absorb this information, engage with child protection organizations, and listen in order to determine how I can contribute to and assist with this appalling issue.
