A Rick Ross lyric from 2009 that many thought was about Diddy’s business history has resurfaced, raising speculation.
The Bawse’s “Magnificent,” a John Legend collaboration about Ross’ commercial success, including the line “I made a transition from the thieves/ To the biggest executive Def Jam’s ever seen.”
The song ends with Ross rapping, “The game never change, money still a focal/ But it’s time to rape the game, like Puffy did Total“).
Given the song’s setting, many believed it was about the R&B group’s exploitative financial connection with Diddy’s Bad Boy Records.
Total sang on key label hits like Notorious B.I.G.’s “Juicy.” The quartet released platinum and gold albums with the label in 1996 and 1998.
After Diddy was accused of sexual assault by Cassie and other women, some wondered if Ross’ lyric was about more than dodgy contracts.
“With Diddy’s recent activities…One commenter wondered why nobody mentioned Rick Ross’ Magnificent line “but its time to rape tha game like Puffy did Total.”
“I need to know what Rick Ross meant when he said “its time to rape the game like Puffy did Total,” another said.
