It is not “Just a Dream”; Ashanti and Nelly, an ultra-Y2K couple, are reportedly expecting their first child together.
Us Weekly was informed on Monday by a source that Ashanti is indeed expectant.
A representative for Nelly, 49, who was contacted by The Post was unable to corroborate or deny the news.
Additionally, The Post contacted a representative for Ashanti, 43, for comment.
The couple, who dated intermittently between 2003 and 2014, sparked pregnancy rumors over the weekend at his St. Louis Black and White Ball while performing together.
Ashanti’s palm gesture on Nelly’s abdomen stimulated Nelly to follow suit.
“I want you to chant’seal the deal,'” a man with a microphone instructed the audience to do as the performer erupted in hilarity.
This would be the first infant for Ashanti and the third for Nelly. Chanelle, age 29, and Cornell Haynes III, age 24, are his children with Channetta Valentine, his ex-girlfriend.
The “Body On Me” partners were observed holding hands as they exited the boxing match between Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia in Las Vegas in April, when they reunited.
The reconciliation, according to Nelly, “surprised both of us.”
He stated, “I don’t believe anything about it was unplanned,” in an interview with “Love and Hip Hop” personalities Rasheeda and Kirk Frost.
“I think we were both doing what we do, but sometimes being apart makes you better understand each other,” the “Hot in Herre” rapper said regarding their reunion.
“You might say, ‘Allow me to see precisely what they see.'” That is precisely why we can all become defensive in our personal relationships at times. Although we acknowledge our error, we intend to maintain our stance. However, everyone is a victim of that.”
Ashanti explained to Chuck Arnold of The Post the previous year why their high-profile relationship did not endure.
She stated, “There were good times and bad times; living in two different states and traveling so much presented challenges at times.” “Back then, our careers were, in a word, exploding. It was exceedingly difficult to attempt to do everything at once.
Even further, the “Foolish” singer stated she was entirely content with her single status.
She asserted, “There have been circumstances that were alarmingly close to that.” “All I want is for it to go to the appropriate individual.” I estimate that my parents have been wed for over four decades. Therefore, that could be considered a prototype for myself.”
However, Nelly and Ashanti may now have the opportunity to read “My Name Is a Story,” a children’s book that Ashanti published last July, to their newborn child.
Regarding the plot, she stated, “It encourages children to be joyful and comfortable with being different or having a different name.” “As you are aware, my name is unique and uncommon. However, I wish for children with unique names to recognize that that is strength in and of itself. Embrace your identity. Admire the fact that you stand out and are unique.”
